Career Centre

Are you where you desire to be with your career? Do you ever question if there may be better options for you? We endeavour to assist you step by step to help you make the right choices to get what you want from your work and career.

If you are already in your chosen field and aspire to progress you may benefit by willing to take on extra responsibilities outside your job description. This will prove to your superiors that you have the determination to succeed. A good place to discuss your next career move is during your appraisal. This will make your employer aware of your aspirations and they should assist you in your progression.

If you are looking to totally change your career path a good place to start is to make a list of the type of jobs you might like to do. If you are still uncertain it may be useful to speak to friends and family to identify various jobs and ask what they particularly enjoy about their work. This will give you a definitive idea if this job would suit you. Once you have chosen your field think about your preferences, qualities, strengths and what motives you? How do these fit into your chosen job? If your personal attributes don’t fit your chosen job then re-visit your list of potential jobs and start again.

If you don’t have the experience or qualifications required it may be worth researching courses at your local college to equip you academically. If no formal qualifications are required and it is experience you lack then consider doing some voluntary work in your chosen field. To improve your chances of landing your dream job you will need the ammunition and back up on your CV to prove you have the skills and experience to carry out this role successfully. With any chosen career path the more relevant experience you possess increases your chances of being selected for the position.
